Chunking Songs into Parts

Learn how to divide your lyrics into manageable sections for more effective memorization.

What is Chunking?

Chunking is the process of dividing your lyrics into smaller, manageable sections (like verses, choruses, bridges, etc.). This allows you to practice specific parts of a song instead of the entire piece, making memorization more effective.

How to Chunk a Song into Parts

  1. After adding or editing lyrics, you'll be taken to the chunking screen
  2. You'll see your lyrics displayed line by line
  3. At the top, select a part type from the available badges:
    • Verse (blue)
    • Chorus (green)
    • Intro (orange)
    • Pre-Chorus (amber)
    • Bridge (purple)
    • Outro (rose)

To create a part:

  • Tap the first line of the section you want to mark
  • Tap the last line of that section
  • The selected lines will be highlighted with the part type's color

To remove a part:

  • Deselect the current part type (tap on it again to deselect)
  • Tap on any line within an existing part to remove it

To clear all parts:

  • Tap the brush/clean button in the bottom-right corner
  • This removes all chunking and lets you start fresh

Tap “Done” when finished to save your parts.

Tips for Effective Chunking

  • Start by identifying natural breaks in the song (verses, choruses, etc.)
  • Keep parts to a manageable size (4-8 lines is often ideal)
  • Color-coded parts make it easy to identify different sections visually
